2024 Market Editor’s Analysis and Key Takeaways

Banksy’s market in 2024 experienced a decline in both sales value and volume, aligning with the broader market correction seen in recent years. However, this trend is not exclusive to Banksy; despite cautious bidding affecting annual results, he remains a powerhouse in the Contemporary art world. Prints continue to be one of the most accessible entry points for collectors seeking a signed work by a cultural icon, and Banksy’s market still offers strong opportunities.

While the overall market softened, his most recognisable imagery continued to perform well. Girl With Balloon, for example, appeared at auction at least eleven times, selling successfully on nine occasions - demonstrating ongoing collector demand. The highest result came from New Zealand, where a signed edition achieved £285,831, marking an increase from the previous year’s high. Other sought-after prints in 2024 included Banksy’s Kate Moss and rare colourways of Choose Your Weapon.

As of March 2025, five works have already sold, with active bidding particularly noticeable on unsigned prints, highlighting strong demand for more affordable editions. Despite shifts in the wider economy and corrections in certain segments of the print market, Banksy’s works continue to demonstrate impressive resilience, largely driven by online sales and accessibility.

In the first quarter of 2025, only one signed Banksy artwork surfaced at auction - Flower Thrower Triptych - which sold at the low estimate with fees. The remaining Banksy works offered during this period were unsigned pieces, which saw strong bidding activity. This aligns with broader market conditions, reflecting a cautious sentiment yet sustained demand for more accessible works by blue chip artists.
