Meaning & Analysis

The red Space Invader character is inspired by the characters populating Invader’s favourite childhood video game, also entitled Invaders. This retro, heavily pixelated, early video game now underpins the artist’s creative output and pseudonym through which he conceals his true identity.

The objects comprising Invader’s still life are pixelated to such an extent that they verge on being indistinguishable. This low-res quality has become Invader’s signature aesthetic style, whilst his Space Invaders are his trademark. In sum, Still Life With Pocari Can embodies the artistic qualities that make Invader so popular globally and instantly recognisable.
