Meaning & Analysis

Radar Rat or sometimes called Sonic Rat is a black and white print in Banksy’s iconic spray-stencil style. It depicts a rat standing on its hind legs, wearing headphones and holding radar equipment with a hand-sprayed coral-red spiral in the background. This particular rat has appeared as a mural on a few walls in London including one on King’s Road, which is one of the capitals under the most surveillance in the world, which is precisely the theme the image is playing on. Radar Rat was released in 2004 along with Banksy’s other artworks from the Rat series, such as Love Rat and Gangsa Rat, and much like them, it is very popular. The fact that it is such a low edition makes it especially highly coveted.
