Meaning & Analysis

This carefully rendered etching of the coastal landscape of Margate is the artist's homage to her childhood hometown. With her distinctively misspelt annotation on the building to the far left of the print - labelled “DREEMLAND” - and the recognisable illustration of Margate’s clocktower, The Golden Mile is a work at once relatable to anyone familiar with Emin’s hometown. The whispy, delicate lines are characteristic of Emin's ouvre and the personal attachment to the subject of the print is a recurring theme throughout her work.
