Biography

Yvonne Jacquette emerged in the Contemporary Art scene with her exceptional depictions of aerial landscapes. Born on 15 December 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was raised in Stamford, Connecticut. Jacquette studied at the Rhode Island School of Design from 1952 to 1956, where she nurtured her painting and printmaking skills. In the mid-1950s, she relocated to New York City, immersing herself in the art scene.

Her artistic practice primarily focuses on aerial views of cities and landscapes. A flight to San Diego in 1969 inspired her to employ a pointillistic technique to depict the expansive aerial views of landscapes, capturing the intricate textures and lights of the scene. Throughout her career, Jacquette's aerial perspectives reveal the energy of urban environments.

Throughout her career, Jacquette exhibited her work in numerous galleries and museums. Notable exhibitions include a major retrospective at the Portland Museum of Art in Maine, alongside showcases at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art. Her works are included in prestigious collections, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

In addition to her art, Jacquette was an educator. She taught at various institutions, including the Moore College of Art and between 1972-76, she was a visiting artist at the University of Pennsylvania. Between 1975-78, she taught at Parsons School of Design and from 1979-84, at the University of Pennsylvania.

Printmaking is an integral part of Jacquette's oeuvre. She has employed lithography and screenprinting to depict her signature aerial views. Prints such as Northwest View From The Empire State Building and Aerial View Of 33rd Street depict the lights of the cityscape to evoke the atmospheric nighttime of New York City.
