Jennifer Walking is a lenticular acrylic panel released in an edition of 35 and executed by Julian Opie in 2010. The female protagonist is depicted walking, her movements isolated into a single moment. Jennifer is walking in non-space here; she is going nowhere.
The rhythm and tempo of Jennfier’s pace are captured in the blurring of the lower half of her legs, as well as her arms. Therefore, even though the image is fixed, her sense of movement is powerful. Overall, Opie plays with the ways of seeing through reinterpreting the visual vocabulary of everyday life; his reductive artistic style evokes both a visual and spatial experience of the world.
