Emerging from New York's Street Art scene, Jerkface has established himself as a significant figure in Contemporary Art. Born in 1982, he grew up in Queens. Known for his subversive yet playful approach, Jerkface often reimagines well-known characters, transforming them into repetitive, kaleidoscopic works.
Jerkface's work spans various mediums, including murals, prints, and digital art. His anonymity shifts focus entirely to the art itself.
Jerkface's artistic journey began in the early 2000s, where he gained recognition for his engaging public murals across New York City. These large-scale works often feature reinterpretations of iconic characters like Mickey Mouse and Kermit the Frog, presented through vibrant colour and repetitive patterns. His work has been exhibited in key galleries, including the Maddox Gallery in London.
Wu Tang Care Bears, Jerkface’s 2017 Giclée print, encapsulates his distinctive approach to pop culture and appropriation art. In this print, Jerkface brings together two contrasting icons of American pop culture: the sweet, nostalgic Care Bears and the hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan. By replacing the Care Bears’ belly symbols with Wu-Tang’s signature 'W' logo, Jerkface creates a playful yet thought-provoking juxtaposition. The vibrant colours of bears invoke a lighthearted, comforting scene, yet the Wu-Tang symbol hints at rebellion and disruption.
